Professor Joanna Coast

Joanna Coast is Professor in the Economics of Health and Care at the University of Bristol, United Kingdom. Her main research interests lie in the theory underlying economic evaluation (including capability), developing broader measures of outcome (including measures of capability) for use in economic evaluation across the life course, healthcare decision-making and the organisation of care, particular end-of-life care. She also has a methodological interest in the use of qualitative methods in health economics and is a recognised international authority in this field. 

Joanna has acted as a scientific advisor for an award-winning BBC Radio 4 drama on antibiotic resistance. She has presented at community science festivals on antibiotic resistance and healthcare decision-making, and has engaged with primary school children on the concepts of capabilities and opportunity cost.
